Luke 12:13-21

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

To whom will all this wealth of yours go?

A man in the crowd said to Jesus, ‘Master, tell my brother to give me a share of our inheritance.’ ‘My friend,’ he replied, ‘who appointed me your judge, or the arbitrator of your claims?’ Then he said to them, ‘Watch, and be on your guard against avarice of any kind, for a man’s life is not made secure by what he owns, even when he has more than he needs.’

Then he told them a parable: ‘There was once a rich man who, having had a good harvest from his land, thought to himself, “What am I to do? I have not enough room to store my crops.” Then he said, “This is what I will do; I will pull down my barns and build bigger ones, and store all my grain and my goods in them, and I will say to my soul: My soul, you have plenty of good things laid by for many years to come; take things easy, eat, drink, have a good time.” But God said to him, “Fool! This very night the demand will be made for your soul; and this hoard of yours, whose will it be then?” So it is when a man stores up treasure for himself in place of making himself rich in the sight of God.’

Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians,

This week the Gospel tells us It is about how we invest our lives and the gifts that God has given us. It is about how our lives are fundamentally aligned: toward ourselves and our passing desires, or toward God and our neighbour, toward God's mission to bless and redeem the world. This parable sends the message that worldly and earthly possessions are of no benefit in the afterlife. Those who have suffered on Earth will receive their reward in Heaven. It warns against letting wealth and possessions distract from following the Law of Moses and the Kingdom of God. As the Gospel says, you can have all the money in the world and lots of possessions, but does that make us happy? And if we are not prepared to share it, and keep it for ourselves, how much joy does that bring us??

Yesterday we celebrated 100 days of Foundation and what a wonderful occasion it was. The foundation students had so much fun as they made biscuits, crowns for their heads explaining they were 100 days smarter, received certificates for their 100 days, joined in a parade to show us their wonderful costumes and read out to the school what they would buy if they had $100 to spend. They left with balloons and little gifts for each of them. In next week’s newsletter, we will have the photos and stories from our students. A huge thank you to our Foundation teachers, Geraldine Wilmann and Katherine Gronek for the fantastic effort they put into making yesterday such a special day and for the Assembly!

The P&F have arranged a pie drive, and all the yummy things can be organised through CDF pay. This is a great opportunity to purchase some tasty treats and raise money for the school.

Thank you and God Bless,

Meg
