Gospel of the Week
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke
You cannot be slaves both of God and of money.
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘The man who can be trusted in little things can be trusted in great; the man who is dishonest in little things will be dishonest in great. If then you cannot be trusted with money, that tainted thing, who will trust you with genuine riches? And if you cannot be trusted with what is not yours, who will give you what is your very own?
‘No servant can be the slave of two masters: he will either hate the first and love the second, or treat the first with respect and the second with scorn. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.’
Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians,
This week, the Gospel describes the Parable of the Shrewd Manager, where a rich man fires an irresponsible steward for mismanaging his property. The steward, to secure his future, makes a shrewd deal with his master's debtors by reducing their debts. Though the manager was dishonest, the rich man commends him for his shrewdness, prompting Jesus to teach that the "children of this world" are wiser in their own ways than the "children of light". The passage concludes with Jesus' advice to use "unrighteous wealth" (money) to make friends for eternity and emphasizes that no one can serve both God and money.
The key to security about the things we need is not anxious earning and saving, but trustworthy service and spending. If God can trust us to spend our money to meet the needs of others, then the money we ourselves need will also be provided.
We have come to the end of our third term! One that has been short but of course always busy.
We have celebrated Father’s Day, Book Week parade, Athletics carnivals, our students heading off to SFX for concert productions etc., 100 days of Foundation, Inter-school sports, Community meetings with our Myanmar and African families where they made Pizza, pasta and salad sandwiches!
And finishing off the term with a bang with our annual Footy dress up day where we enjoyed hot pies for lunch and have a parade of costumes and celebrate our AFL footy colours. It was wonderful to welcome all the many parents to this parade. See some photos below.
Thanks again to all the parents, carers and guardians for your support across the term. I just love the community feel we have here at St Patrick’s, and it is such an amazing sight to see families looking out for one another! I would also like to thank all my amazing staff for all they do both in front and behind the scenes. They always show up when needed and it is clear they show they care in all they do!
I would like to wish all families and staff all the best for their holidays. I hope that families are able to take some quality time to spend together and to rest and recharge for our final term of 2025!
Tomorrow is the end of Term 3. School finishes on Friday the 19th of September at 2.30pm. Please make sure you add this time to your calendar.
God Bless
Meg
